Mayor Peduto, Riverlife to announce public art project under Fort Duquesne Bridge

You are invited to join Mayor William Peduto and Riverlife on Thursday, June 4th at 10:00 am at the downtown Allegheny River riverwalk for a special announcement!

Mayor Peduto will preview a large-scale public art project planned for the downtown Allegheny riverfront to be implemented this month.  The mayor will be joined by Jay Sukernek, Acting Director of Riverlife, and Veronica Corpuz, Director of Festival Management for the Dollar Bank Three Rivers Arts Festival.

The event will be staged at the eastern end of the riverfront space underneath the Fort Duquesne Bridge/10th Street Bypass on-ramp. To access the site, attendees should take the riverfront access stairs on the city side of the Roberto Clemente/6th Street Bridge and head west on the riverwalk toward Point State Park. An ADA-accessible ramp down to the riverwalk is available one block east at the the Andy Warhol/7th Street Bridge. If driving, attendees are encouraged to park using the Pittsburgh Parking Authority lot on 6th street between Penn Ave and Fort Duquesne Boulevard.

Please note: it is a ten minute walk along the riverfront trail from the parking lot to the site.

The announcement is expected to last from 10:00-10:30 am. Please RSVP by contacting Stephan Bontrager, stephan@riverlifepgh.org.

Call for Volunteers to Create large-scale art project on the downtown riverfront

Intrigued? Want to help make this art project come alive? Riverlife seeks volunteers to help implement a large scale work of public art. No skill required, just a great attitude, sense of fun, and pride in helping create a really cool project. Come solo or gather a group of friends and join us!

The stretch of the Allegheny Riverfront Trail under the 10th Street bypass near Point State Park needs some attention and love. During the Three Rivers Arts Festival, Riverlife plans to give it just that. We have commissioned a local artist to design a visual project that will be implemented with the help of volunteers like you. Come on down June 6-14 from 11am – 3pm and join in the fun! Wear comfortable clothes that can get messy.

Email lara@riverlifepgh.org to reserve a slot for your group and for more information. (note: we would love to have Pittsburghers of all ages join us, but due to liability we cannot accommodate children under the age of 10.)
