Photos: Mon Wharf Switchback ribbon cutting celebration

By December 10, 2018Blog

Not even the winter weather could keep the smiles off our faces as we celebrated the newest connection to Pittsburgh’s riverfront!

“Warm Up at the Wharf” was the grand opening celebration for the new Mon Wharf Switchback hosted by Riverlife and the City of Pittsburgh on December 4, 2018. Over 150 Pittsburghers walked, biked and bladed across the Smithfield Street Bridge and down the new switchback ramp to the Mon Wharf, where a ribbon was cut to commemorate the opening of the new project. The processional across the river was led by Mayor Bill Peduto and County Executive Rich Fitzgerald, followed by brass players from the band Beauty Slap, adding a very fun and festive soundtrack to the event.

Special thanks to the Gateway Clipper Fleet for the generous use of one of their boats during the event. Thanks especially to the many partners, funders, and community donors who supported this project throughout the past decade. Congratulations to all on this amazing new connection to the riverfront!
