Scoring the Loop

OUR SCORECARD SYSTEM WILL GUIDE OUR WORK TO THE AREAS IT’S NEEDED MOST

To focus our efforts on the portions in greatest need, we needed to assess the conditions of the Loop as it exists now. So we created a scorecard to systematically evaluate the current conditions and compare them to our vision for a thriving riverfront. Segments are scored on five areas:

  1. Connectivity: Does the riverfront connect people to the river, to destinations, and to neighborhoods?
  2. Sense of place: Does the riverfront have well-designed places with amenities, lighting, and quality design?
  3. Ecology: Is the riverfront ecologically sound with natural banks, native plants, and tree cover?
  4. Maintenance: Is the riverfront consistently maintained with no litter and safe conditions?
  5. Experience: Does the riverfront provide diverse experiences in places with unique character?

Most areas of the Loop face similar concerns: invasive species, lack of maintenance, and lack of amenities like benches, bike parking, and restrooms. Overall, only 12% of the Loop scored as “High Quality,” and 41% is in need of major repairs. See how we intend to fix that by reading the full Completing the Loop report.
