Work begins on residential units and trail improvements; detour announced
JULY 28, 2016: This summer will see significant steps forward in the transformation of Pittsburgh’s Strip District riverfront.
Cleveland-based developer NRP Group has reached a leasing agreement with riverfront property owner The Buncher Company to begin work on NRP’s $60 million Riverfront Residences project. The residences will be located between 19th and 21st Streets along the Allegheny River.
In addition to new housing, the project will include riverfront courtyards, storage for bicycles and kayaks, a plaza at 19th Street, and a 14-foot-widening and improvement of a section of the Strip’s existing Three Rivers Heritage Trail between 19th and 21st Streets. Construction is expected to take two years.

The Three Rivers Heritage Trail between 11th and 21st Streets in the Strip District will be closed beginning Monday, August 1, 2016 as work begins on two riverfront improvement projects.
The Buncher Company will be performing a trail clean-up project from 11th to 16th Streets and NRP Group (see above) will be working on sanitation pipes from 18th to 21st Streets for their residential construction project. Buncher’s project is scheduled to be completed in November 2016, pending unforeseen circumstances, at which time the trail will reopen from 11th to 15th Streets. The trail from 15th to 21st is scheduled to remain closed until early summer 2017 during the NRP work.
For the August 1st closure, The Buncher Company has indicated they will implement the same detour and signage used when the riverfront trail was closed in 2015, in which case users were detoured to Smallman Street during the closure.
