About Us

Matthew Galluzzo (he/him) has dedicated his 25-year career to Pittsburgh and its neighborhoods. Since 2019, he has served as President and CEO of Riverlife, advancing transformative riverfront initiatives at the intersection of arts and culture, sustainability, and economic development across sectors throughout the Greater Pittsburgh region.

During his tenure, Riverlife has pursued goals outlined in the Completing the Loop vision plan, a sweeping vision for Pittsburgh’s riverfronts developed under his leadership with robust community engagement. Completing the Loop earned national recognition from the American Institute of Architects and the American Planning Association. In recent years, Galluzzo has championed the rehabilitation and repositioning of numerous signature riverfront spaces, launched an international award-winning programming barge to the public (Shore Thing), developed and implemented UpKeep, a permanent care and maintenance initiative for Pittsburgh’s riverfront trails and open spaces, and advanced thought leadership on critical regional challenges, among other achievements. He has overseen the growth of the organization’s net asset position from under $2 million in 2019 to over $18 million, including the creation of an endowment to fund UpKeep for generations to come. In 2026, he was named to the Pittsburgh Business Times Power 100, recognizing the region’s most influential leaders.

Before Riverlife, Galluzzo served for nine years as Executive Director of Lawrenceville Corporation, a community development organization in Pittsburgh’s East End. There, he facilitated more than $200 million in public and private investment and led the creation of Western Pennsylvania’s first Community Land Trust. Earlier in his career, Galluzzo worked as a community development professional across Pittsburgh, including in the Penn Avenue Arts District, Hazelwood, and the Northside.

Galluzzo has served on numerous boards and committees, including the Urban Redevelopment Authority’s Real Estate Loan Review Committee and New Market Tax Credit Advisory Board, as well as the boards of Radiant Hall, the Sprout Fund Public Art Advisory Committee, the Carnegie Mellon Artist Incubation Advisory Committee, and the Owen Galluzzo Memorial Fund. He is also an alumnus of Leadership Pittsburgh’s Lead Now fellowship and a recipient of the Distinguished Alumni Award from the University of Pittsburgh School of Social Work, where he has taught as an adjunct faculty member.
